Free Tax Health Check: find out where you stand with URA, in 30 minutes

Most tax problems grow quietly: a return never filed, a balance gathering interest, a tax you registered for and forgot. In a free 30-minute check, a licensed tax agent reads your URA account with you and tells you plainly what's fine, what's missing and what it would cost to fix. You leave with a written next step.

The basics

What is the Tax Health Check?

It's a free, 30-minute review for new clients, done by a licensed tax agent. With your TIN and your permission, we look at your URA account the way URA does: what you're registered for, what's been filed, what's outstanding, and what's building up in penalties and interest.

You get an honest answer, not a sales pitch. If everything's in order, we tell you. If it isn't, you get a written next step and, where there's work to do, a written quote valid for 14 days. There's no obligation to use us.

In 30 minutes, we check

  • Registration: which taxes you're registered for, and whether that's still right.
  • Returns: what's filed and what's missing, for every tax head, including nil returns.
  • Balances: unpaid tax, interest and penalties on your account.
  • Risk: anything likely to trigger a URA query, an assessment or a refused TCC.

The TIN health check is free for new clients. Any work that follows is quoted in writing first.

Who it applies to

Who it's for

You're not sure you're up to date

No letters from URA doesn't mean nothing is outstanding. The check tells you for certain.

You'll need a TCC soon

For a tender, a transfer or a bank. Find the blockers before you apply.

You've received a URA letter

Understand what it means and what your deadline is, before you reply.

Your business is changing

New staff, crossing UGX 150M or 300M, a new partner or buyer: check your position first.

Individuals and companies

What we look at

For individuals

Income tax returns, rental tax, presumptive tax if you run a small business, and PAYE or VAT if your business is registered for them.

For companies

Every tax head the company is registered for (corporate tax, VAT, PAYE, withholding tax), EFRIS against VAT, and whether the directors' own returns are filed.

Where it goes wrong

Problems the check usually finds

  • A tax registered years ago and never filed
  • Interest building on a small, forgotten balance
  • Payments posted to the wrong tax head
  • VAT returns that don't match EFRIS
  • A director's personal return that blocks the company's TCC

The cost of waiting: These problems don't stay small. Each missing return carries its own penalty, interest keeps running, and they surface at the worst moment: a TCC application, a tender or an audit.

About the check

Yes, for new clients. The 30-minute check costs nothing. If we find work that needs doing, we quote it in writing first, and you decide.

About 30 minutes, by phone, WhatsApp or in person at our office in Cham Towers, Kampala.

Your TIN, permission to view your URA account as your tax agent, and any URA letters you've received.

No. Viewing your account as your tax agent is routine and doesn't start an audit. Nothing is filed or changed without your agreement.

No. You give us agent access on URA's system, and we show you how.

After the check

No. You get a written summary either way. Many people fix small issues themselves once they know what they are.

We tell you what each one is, how urgent it is and what it would cost to fix, with a written quote valid for 14 days.

We tell you, in writing. Some clients then ask us to keep it that way with monthly filing or a retainer; that's optional.

Your situation

Bring your national ID. We check whether you need one and can register you.

We review the company's tax heads and the directors' own returns, because both affect things like a TCC.

We do the check by WhatsApp or phone, at a time that suits you.

That's fine. The check is an independent look at what URA's records show, which is useful for you and your accountant.
