Terms of Service
Version: 6 November 2026
1. Who we are
These terms are set by 256 TAX CONSULTANTS-SMC LIMITED, trading as 256 Tax Consultants (256TC), of Suite 183, Cham Towers, Kampala, and P.O. Box 179389, Kampala GPO. We are a Licensed Tax Agent, registered with TARC under URA, and have worked from Kampala since 2012.
2. Website information is not advice
Content on this website — guides, rates, thresholds, FAQs, calendars, case examples — is general information, current only as at its stated date. Tax law changes with every Finance Act, and outcomes depend on specific facts. Reading this website, filling in a form, using a calculator or messaging us does not make you our client. We act for you only after we confirm in writing that we accept the work, and on which terms: a signed engagement letter, or a written quote you accept.
2A. Messages, passwords and codes
Email and WhatsApp are not fully secure. Never send anyone, including us, a PIN, passkey or one-time code. We will never ask for one. If your engagement needs us to use your URA or EFRIS login, your engagement terms set the safe way to give it to us. Where we give you a secure upload link or portal, send tax documents that way.
3. Engagements
Professional services are governed by a written engagement letter setting out scope, fees, timelines and responsibilities. Quotes are provided in writing before work begins; work outside the agreed scope is quoted separately before it is undertaken.
4. Fees & payment
Fees are as quoted in the engagement letter. Staged engagements are billed by milestone; retainers monthly or annually in advance. Where fees are unpaid, we may pause work after written notice — statutory deadlines belong to the client during any such pause. Pay our fees only into the bank or mobile-money accounts shown on our invoice or in your engagement letter. We will never ask you to pay a staff member, a referral partner, or a personal mobile-money number. If anyone asks you to, call us first on +256 773 987 457.
5. Client responsibilities
Timely, accurate and complete information is essential to tax work. We rely on the documents and facts you provide; responsibility for their accuracy remains yours. Deadlines can only be met when information reaches us in reasonable time.
5A. Complaints
If you are unhappy with our work or our people, tell us. Write to consult@256taxconsultants.ug or WhatsApp +256 773 987 457. Give your name or business name, what happened, the date, any amount involved, and what you want us to do. We confirm receipt within 2 working days and answer in writing within 14 days. Our complaints and legal team looks into it, and someone who did not work on your matter reviews it. Making a complaint does not stop you using the dispute route in your engagement letter or the law.
5B. Using the site and our content
You may read, print and share our articles and guides with a link back and a credit to 256 Tax Consultants. Do not republish them as your own or sell them. Do not copy, resell, take apart or try to break into the website, the partner portal or our apps, or collect data from them by automated means. Do not try to get round a sign-in or a code check.
6. Limitation of liability
Our website gives general information only (see section 2). We are not liable for loss caused by relying on it without engaging us. This does not limit our liability for our fraud or wilful default, for a breach of data protection law, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. When you engage us, we do the work with reasonable care and skill, and your engagement letter sets out our duties and any limit on our liability. We are not responsible for a result caused by information given to us late, incomplete or wrong, or by a lawful decision of URA, a tribunal or a court.
7. Confidentiality
Both parties keep each other's confidential information confidential, during and after the engagement, subject to disclosures required by law or made to authorities as your representative. See our Privacy Policy.
7A. Our social media pages
We never discuss anyone's tax affairs in comments or public posts. If you post a TIN, ID number, account number or details of a tax matter on our pages, we may hide or delete it to protect you, and we will move the conversation to a private channel after checking who you are. We may also delete posts that are abusive, defamatory or spam.
8. Referral & partner programs
Referral rewards and partner fees are set out in writing: on the Referral Program page, or in the signed partner agreement. They are paid only after the client has paid us. We tell every referred client, in writing and before they sign, that a reward or fee is paid. It does not change our price. Only people we have signed as referral partners may say they refer clients to us; we confirm the list on request.
9. Governing law
These website terms are governed by the laws of Uganda. Disputes about the website go to the courts of Uganda, which have non-exclusive jurisdiction. A signed engagement letter, quote or partner agreement has its own disputes clause, and that clause applies to it.
10. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we post the new version here with its date. Using the site after that date means you accept the new version. Changes do not alter a signed engagement letter, quote or partner agreement; those change only as they themselves allow.
Contact
Our official channels are email consult@256taxconsultants.ug, WhatsApp and phone +256 773 987 457, and post to P.O. Box 179389, Kampala GPO. A notice sent to us any other way counts only once we confirm we received it. You may ask us to stop non-essential messages, such as newsletters and reminders, at any time. Service and legal notices still come.
